The Lovački rog team led by Dinko Šetka from Stobreč near Lužani in Slavonija took third place at the 11th Fišijada, fish paprikash competition held at the Grabovica Eco-Village in Herzegovina, near Lake Buško. Vedran Kovačić and his group from the Kod Peše tavern in Osijek finished second, while Višnja Josić and the Kupusari (cabbage team) from Donji Miholjac cooked the best fish paprikash at the event. Twenty-three teams from Herzegovina and Croatia participated. Prizes were awarded to all contestants, with special recognition given to the female competitors. There were fish paprikash dishes of every style, ranging from sweet ones that sticks to the palate and fresher versions with an excess of tomato, to spicy ones that made the mouth burn. Whatever, local Žilavka wine washed it all down beautifully.
The judging was blind, with several people ensuring no one knew whose fish stew was in which bowl, and the results were quite impressive. The contestants began cooking in the late afternoon for greater comfort, though the stews had been simmering in the cauldrons since morning. Alongside the fish stews, there were dishes like beans, čobanac, and goulash... Something for everyone!
